When do I need a D4 DVLA Medical?
A D4 DVLA medical will be needed if any of the following applies.
- If you are applying for a Group 2 license, also known as ‘vocational licences’, for large goods vehicles (lorries), passenger carrying vehicles (buses) and horse boxes
- If you are renewing your entitlement to a Group 2 license at 45 years
- From 45 years to 65 years you will need a D4 medical exam every 5 years
- At 65 years old you will need an annual D4 medical

What is a D4 Medical?
A D4 Driver’s Medical is a medical check performed by a doctor to ensure that a driver meets the Group 2 medical standards which include checking the heart, lungs and neurological (brain and nerves) systems aswell as vision and mental health. HORIBA MIRA is a global provider of automotive engineering, research and test services. To be granted a ground entry pass a medical examination is required. The standard required is the same as that of a HGV/LGV/D4 medical. All medical examinations for Horiba Mira are performed by a GMC registered doctor registered to a practice in the UK.
What is an ML5 Seafarer Medical?
The ML5 Medical is a Seafarer Medical in Accordance with Maritime and Coastguard Agency Medical Guidelines.
