FAQs about our Japan Visa Medical

Which types of Japan visas require this medical?

A medical “Certificate of Health” is required for the JET Programme and many long-term work or study visas that require a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE). While standard tourists (up to 90 days) do not need a medical, anyone staying for “Mid-to-Long Term” must typically provide health clearance.
For the JET Programme, you must follow the strict deadlines provided in your offer pack (usually shortly after your interview results). For CoE applicants, we recommend booking 4 weeks before your visa appointment. Note that TB screening results (X-ray or blood test) are generally valid for 180 days.
The clinic appointment takes approximately 45 minutes. Because the Japan medical requires a urinalysis and a Chest X-ray or specialized TB blood test, your final certified “Certificate of Health” is typically ready within 5 working days.
Yes, Japan is very thorough regarding mental health. You must disclose any history of depression, anxiety, or eating disorders. Our doctors will discuss your history to certify your current stability for living abroad.
Yes, all JET applicants must provide a Chest X-ray report to screen for TB. This is a non-negotiable part of the Japanese Ministry of Education’s (MEXT) requirements.
Yes, the JET form requires a dipstick urinalysis for glucose, protein, and blood. We perform this on-site during your appointment and record the results immediately.
Yes, the doctor must record your visual acuity (with and without glasses) and confirm that your hearing is within normal limits to ensure you can function effectively in a classroom environment.
Absolutely. We are highly familiar with the JET Programme’s 2-page “Certificate of Health” and ensure all sections, including the TB and urinalysis parts, are completed accurately.
