About our Clinic

What is a Plant Operator Medical?

A Plant Operator Medical is a fitness-to-work assessment designed for individuals operating heavy machinery such as excavators, cranes, dumpers, and forklifts. Because operating plant equipment is classified as “Safety-Critical,” employers and site managers have a legal duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act to ensure operators are medically fit to work. Our assessments confirm that you possess the required physical and mental health to operate machinery without risking yourself or others on-site.

The assessment includes same day certificate to confirm you meet the Group 2  standard and are fit to work.

FAQs about our Plant Operator Medical

Why do I need a Plant Operator Medical?

Operating heavy plant equipment requires a high level of concentration, physical coordination, and sensory awareness. This medical is a mandatory requirement for many site insurance policies and competency schemes (like CPCS). It proves you are fit to manage the demands of the job and helps employers put reasonable adjustments in place if necessary.
Standard plant medical certificates are typically valid for up to 3 years, depending on your age and the specific requirements of your employer or the site you are working on. For operators over the age of 45, more frequent assessments may be required.
Yes. We specialise in short-notice bookings across our nationwide clinics to ensure you don’t miss out on a contract. A “Safety Critical” medical (SCM) is an in-depth assessment to ensure you won’t suffer a sudden loss of consciousness while operating heavy machinery. It covers vision, hearing, and musculoskeletal agility.
We check that you can safely climb in and out of high cabs (like 360 excavators) and have the neck/back mobility to see 360 degrees around your machine.
Yes, if you work in environments with dust or fumes (like construction sites), we perform a baseline spirometry test to monitor your lung health over time.
