About our Clinic

What is the NMC Health Assessment?

The Nursing and Midwifery Council requires all registrants to be in a state of health that allows them to provide safe and effective care. An NMC Medical isn’t just a physical check-up; it is a declaration that any health conditions you may have are well-managed and do not pose a risk to patient safety.

Specialized Assessment for Healthcare Professionals

Our assessment focuses on:

  • Mental & Physical Well-being: Ensuring you can handle the emotional and physical rigours of nursing or midwifery.
  • Condition Management: Reviewing any long-term health issues to ensure they are stable.
  • Patient Safety: Confirming that your health does not impact your clinical decision-making or physical capabilities.

FAQs about our NMC Nurse Medical

Does this medical cover "Fitness to Practise"?

Yes. Our assessment is specifically designed to meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s requirements for health and character. We certify that you are capable of safe and effective practice.
The NMC does not require you to be in perfect health; they require you to be fit to practise. As long as your condition is stable and well-managed, our doctors can usually provide the necessary sign-off.
You don’t need your entire file, but you must bring a “Medical Summary” or “Patient Summary” from your GP. This allows our doctor to verify your history and any ongoing medications quickly.
The NMC requires confirmation that you are “fit to practice.” This health check ensures you meet the physical and mental health standards required to work safely in the UK healthcare system.

Generally, the NMC requires the health declaration to be completed within six months of your application. Always check your specific application timeline to ensure the certificate remains valid.

It covers your general physical health, immunization status, and mental wellbeing. The doctor must certify that you do not have any conditions that would impair your ability to care for patients.
The focus is on “stability.” Having a history of a mental health condition does not stop you from being a nurse; the doctor simply needs to confirm it is currently managed and you are resilient for the role.
