About our Clinic

What is a Drug & Alcohol Medical

A Drug & Alcohol Medical is a specific health check designed to maintain a safe workplace, especially in high-risk sectors like transport, construction, and logistics. This assessment, carried out by our medical professionals, involves two parts: a standard medical examination to check for any health issues that could be affected by substance use, and mandatory biological screening to look for evidence of drugs or excessive alcohol consumption. The main purpose is simple: to confirm the employee is medically fit to work and fully compliant with the company’s substance misuse policy.

We can provide advice for your HR department to ensure that a compliant and legally defensible report is provided.

FAQs about our Drug & Alcohol Medical

What testing methods does Midland Medical offer?

At Midland Medical, we provide a comprehensive range of testing methods to suit specific requirements, including: urine testing, oral fluid (saliva) testing, hair follicle testing, breathalyser analysis, PeTH blood testing (for chronic alcohol misuse), and the supply of certified home testing kits for employee monitoring.

All testing and medical results are highly confidential. Results are handled according to strict GDPR guidelines and are only shared with the employer’s designated Occupational Health representative, not with the employee’s line manager, unless there are immediate safety concerns.

If a sample is confirmed positive, you have the right to request that the split sample (the portion held in storage) be sent to a separate, accredited laboratory for independent testing.

Urine tests typically detect substances used within the last 2–5 days. Saliva tests have a shorter window (usually 24 hours) but are excellent for detecting “current” impairment.
Yes, some over-the-counter meds (like codeine) can trigger a positive result. This is why our doctor reviews your current medications before the test to ensure accurate interpretation.
Yes, we use Home Office-approved fuel-cell breathalyzers to provide an instant, highly accurate reading of alcohol levels in the system.
Instant results are provided on the same day. Laboratory confirmation results typically take 2–3 working days.
